Workshop Title: Figuring Out the Figurative
Location: Maplewood House, 399 Seymour River Place, North Vancouver
Date: Saturday, April 28, 2012
Time: 9:30am - 4:30pm
Fee: $125 (supplies not included, supply list available below)
Instructor: Frankie Watt
Looking at the broad, overall anatomical structure as well as detailed observation of individual parts such as hands and feet, the morning session will give students the opportunity to create a series of exploratory drawings working from the skeleton and a live nude model. During the afternoon students will work with a clothed model in order to study the way in which material falls across the figure, both enhancing and hiding the structure beneath.
Frankie Watt gained a degree in Contemporary Art and Dance from London University and undertook post-graduate studies in Portraiture at the Heatherly School of Fine Art in London. She has studied facial anatomy for Forensic Facial Reconstruction at the University of Oklahoma and has a certificate in Art Education. A regular exhibitor with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, she is a member of the Portrait Society of America and the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists. Her work was recently published by Taschen Books in ‘Illustration Now! Portraits’ and is in numerous private and public collections in Europe and North America.
