The community was invited to join around a campfire to celebrate the spirit of camaraderie, singing, music, storytelling, food and fun, in partnership with the Province of British Columbia and the Assembly of BC Arts Councils. We also partnered with the local Scouts to celebrate 100 years of Scouting on the North Shore and Capilano University's Indigenous Independent Digital Film Program who filmed the event (video coming summer 2011). Performers engaged the audience in singing round the fire while storytellers shared their tales and guests shared in the warm flow of the fire. The setting of the campfire was along the north shore spirit trail and within the historic shipyard, where the community of North Vancouver began over 100 years ago. As part of the event, guests created their own bug lanterns with the North Vancouver Museum & Archives, just like the pioneers did to light their way up the local mountains. We thank our partners for working with us to make this spirit festival a true community event:
