Philosophers' Café
presented in partnership with Simon Fraser University's Continuing Studies
at Lynn Valley Library, Wednesday February 16, 2011 - 7:00pm
The 'Campfires' exhibition at CityScape Community Art Space and the Campfires Spirit Festival (Campfires: A Circle of Community) encourage further exploration of what is a community. With online chat rooms called 'campfires' and social media replacing personal, social contact, we wonder if the reality of a 'community' is changing. Working with Simon Fraser University, the North Vancouver Community Arts Council invites everyone to participate in a conversation about community.
Community
Is community fundamentally geographic or can it be interest based? Are we losing community in our urban and digital world or may digital connectivity enhance the reach of community?
Mediator: Dr. Mark Battersby, Capilano University
