Anne GazeAnne Gaze

Anne’s paintings and prints are inspired by archaeological sites in Mexico. She explores their unique settings from aerial viewpoints, as well as the effects of time on their structures and surfaces.

She draws maps of the ruins and, by means of woodcut and lift print techniques, incorporates them into prints. She then examines the ancient buildings themselves – how their shapes, structures and surfaces had been affected by time resulting in a series of collographs to best capture their extraordinary textures.

Painting allows her further exploration. By increasing the scale, focusing on colour and carving into the plaster, she strives to convey the moods as well as the atmospheric and geographical qualities unique to each setting.

Anne is a graduate of Emily Carr University. She lives and works in East Vancouver where her studio is open to the public during the annual Eastside Culture Crawl. Her work has been shown throughout Canada, the US and Japan.
