Many artists are inspired by the beautiful coastal waters and forests in BC; however, it can be a challenge to capture them. Acrylic paints provides an accessible medium with sufficient visual impact to successfully capture these subjects. This course is intended for anyone who would like to have a go at these subjects for the first time, or revisit the subject with a fresh eye.
The course will examine the characteristics of acrylic paints as a medium, basic colour theory, colour mixing, composition layering and brushwork. It is a hands-on course, combining demonstration and guided hands-on painting.
We will spend the first two weeks working on a common coastal composition and the last two classes focusing on a common forest composition. In each case, the instructor will lead the session by periodic demonstration, followed personal instruction to each student. By the end of the course, it is hoped that students have practiced brush handling, paint mixing, layering and palette choice to approach forest and coastal landscape with some confidence.
This course is suitable for beginners and people who would like to continue developing their acrylic painting skills.
